About the Item
Large Italian Venetian made Murano art glass bowl attributed to Pauly and Co. circa 1930s. This is a magical piece of glass - measuring a large 34cms / 13 inches (approx.) in diameter and displaying some exquisite glass making techniques. The base of the mouth blown glass is very reminiscent of the style of Vitorrio Zechinn work for MVM Cappelin and also of the work of the Venini furnace.
Captured with a fine 'topaz' or lightly 'smoked amber' toned coloured glass - with a wonderful engraved (often mistakenly described as "etched") Renaissance style flower and leaf pattern often seen amongst French, Italian, German and other European glass from the Art Deco, Art Nouveau, Bauhaus and Arts & Crafts periods. This bowl would make a create centrepiece or would be a wonderful statement fruit bowl in the kitchen.

A very large 'vetro soffiato' glass dish in amethyst transparent glass, designed by Vittorio Zecchin in 1925 and manufactured by Venini, Murano Venice. Acid stamped signature 'venini murano ITALIA' on the base. Venini model number 1306. The dish has been manufactured in different sizes, this is the second largest version which is very rare. One of the early 20th century designs of Zecchin for Cappellin and Venini which motivated the muranese glass companies to set out for new shores. Good condition with some surface scratches.
