About the Item

A large Japanese black lacquer and maki-e lacquer decorated footed pedestal bowl and cover featuring the Fujiwara mon, Meiji Period, circa 1900, Japan. The elegantly proportioned oversized container takes the form of a large and deep bowl supported by a pedestal foot and topped with a fitted cover. The vessel finished with a flat matte black lacquer to the exterior, and a brilliant and bright vermillion red lacquer to the interior. The fitter cover with a single large mon for the Fujiwara family in maki-e gold lacquer. The Fujiwara mon consisting of a tapered wreath of draping wisteria, with three leaves to the top center. The large pedestal bowl with beautiful, simple lines and a wonderful scale. Can be used as a fruit basket, a container for flowers, or just as is. Highly decorative and simply beautiful.
