Chinese Tongzhi Floral Offering Bowl, Turquoise Glaze, 1800s

About the Item

A 19th-century Chinese porcelain offering bowl from the Tongzhi period (1862–1874) used for ceremonial tributes. These bowls were typically placed before ancestral altars, filled with offerings symbolizing respect and continuity. Its scalloped form rests on a short footed base, with a striking turquoise blue glaze on the interior — a color associated with purity and reverence. The exterior is decorated in soft enamel hues with hand-painted floral motifs, evoking themes of renewal and harmony. The combination of symbolic form, color, and purpose makes it a poignant artifact of Chinese ritual practice. Condition: Several visible cracks, consistent with age and ceremonial use.
