Signed 6" square Georges Briard 'Forbidden Fruit' art glass dish in white milky glass with 22k gold and black abstract design. Great vintage condition: no chips, cracks, or much wear if any to the metallic gold. The tray is glass with whimsical black and shimmery gold designs, the center with a large apple and Georges Briard cursive signature on the bottom right-hand side. Hollywood Regency style small dish, vide poche, catch all or nuts appetizer plate. Dimensions: 6 x 6 inches square. About the artist: Georges Briard was the professional name of Jascha Brojdo, a Russian-born American designer and artist known for his contributions to mid-century modern glassware, ceramics, and home decor. He was born on December 17, 1917, in Moscow, Russia, and immigrated to the United States in the 1920s. Briard's designs gained popularity during the 1950s and 1960s. He was particularly known for his intricate glassware designs, often featuring bold and colorful patterns, 22-karat gold accents, and a fusion of various artistic influences. His work included glassware items such as plates, bowls, glass trays, barware, and more. He changed his name to Jascha (Yascha) Brojdo when he moved to Chicago in 1937 to study at the Art Institute of Chicago, where he earned his MFA. After serving in the U.S. Army throughout World War II he moved to New York and began painting metal serving trays signing them Brodjo. (quite a nice find for a collector). He was hired by his friend Max Wille, to create designs for the M. Wille Company, who came up with the name Georges Briard to mark commercial pieces. Brodjo was also a painter and would use his real name on his art pieces. As Georges Briard, Brodjo became an American award-winning designer, his designs stocked at high end department stores, such as Neiman Marcus and Bonwit Teller.
