Platinum and Blue Porcelain Charger by Japanese Contemporary Master Artist

About the Item

Exquisite dimpled Japanese decorative porcelain charger intricately hand painted, showcasing a dramatic breathtaking phoenix in deep blue extending its beautiful long wings to cover the entire body of the vase, set against a stunning platinum dimpled background. It is a signed masterpiece by widely respected master porcelain artist in Imari-Arita style. In 2016, the British Museum added a work by this artist to its collection of contemporary Japanese porcelain – a large lidded jar in the Imari-Arita polychrome enamel tradition. This artist is the recipient of numerous awards for his exceptional porcelain work and his unique gold and platinum work on porcelain. Phoenix or 'Ho-ho" is a mythical bird in Japan that is believed to be a messenger of goodwill that comes to earth and represents sun, fire, fidelity and justice. It is considered a symbol for the imperial household, specifically the empress. In the dimpling process the unfired porcelain shell is impressed with hundreds of dimples, to which gold and platinum are applied at the final stage of production. The dimples are designed to accentuate the luster of the precious metals by varying the thickness of application and allowing the cratering to convey a sense of depth. "Fired-on gold," highlights unique techniques for incorporating gold and platinum into the hand painting and multiple firing processes that yield a stunningly opulent look. The polychrome overglaze is fired at 800 degrees, followed by the application of gold and platinum that are fired at slightly lower temperature to maintain the luster of the precious metals. As a result, a single piece may undergo as many as five-ten firings. This superb gilded porcelain piece comes in a custom made wooden case signed by the artist. Dimensions: D 22 in H 2 in

A Massive Antique Japanese Arita Porcelain Plate by Kajiwara Kiln
Located in Atlanta, GA
On offer is a truly impressive blue and white porcelain plate of Hizen ware, from Arita in Japan, circa mid to late-19th century. The plate was made by Kajiwara Kikujiro (菊次郎, the second Kiku son) and/or Kajiwara Kikusaburo (菊三郎, the third Kiku son who died in 1883) of the Kajiware Family Kiln of in Arita. It was decorated in a superb design with blue under-glaze, clearly out of a hand of a master. In a Classic Japanese composition that was popular in the Meiji Period, the plate displays a riot of auspicious elements, arranged still in a surprisingly harmonious manner. Anchoring the center of the design is an eagle perched on the branch of a blooming cherry tree, its talons clenching the bark and its wings about to open. The motion of the its immediate taking off is palpable. The trunk and the branches of the old cherry tree provide a spacial frame for the arrangement of large peonies with foliage, bundles of chrysanthemums, Chinese bell...
