About the Item

These four exquisite Coalport "Church Gresley" pattern dishes are decorated with black trapezoids, pink roses, cornflower sprigs, and fabulous gilding! In our opinion, the exceptional Church Gresley design is the epitome of English Regency period design. Dimensions: 9.35" diameter Condition: Excellent Price: $900 for the four dishes Background of Coalport Porcelain: The Coalport porcelain factory was founded by John Rose in 1795. Rose had trained at the Caughley Porcelain manufactory in Shropshire and began making his own pottery nearby at Jackfield circa 1780. His rapid success enabled him to buy the Caughley Porcelain factory in 1799. Later he purchased the Nantgarw Porcelain and Swansea Porcelain factories. He employed the talented William Billingsley as a chief painter, and Billingsley's chemist, Walker, who brought the Nantgarw technical recipes to Coalport.
