Antique Quill Anglo Indian Ebony wood Bone inlay Box

About the Item

An antique Matara quill box is a fascinating piece of craftsmanship from British Colonial Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), dating back to the late 19th century. These boxes are typically made from ebony wood and decorated with porcupine quills that were naturally shed from the animals1. The quills are often arranged in intricate patterns, and the boxes may also feature inlaid bovine bone. This item was found in England. It opens and closes and has a keyed opening. Key not included. It is mostly intact but is missing round bone pieces and 3 or 4 quills. Decorating with an antique quill box can turn it into a stunning centerpiece or a functional yet stylish storage piece. Here are some ideas to showcase its beauty: 1. Display on a Mantel or Shelf Place the quill box on a mantelpiece or a floating shelf. This creates a classic and elegant vignette. 2. Tabletop Accent Use the quill box as a centerpiece on a coffee table or an end table. 3. Desk Organizer Utilize the quill box on your desk to hold small office supplies like paper clips, pins, or even small notes. It adds a touch of sophistication and keeps your workspace tidy. 4. Jewelry Holder Repurpose the quill box to store and display your jewelry. 5. Vanity Decor Place the quill box on your vanity or dresser to hold makeup, brushes, or other small beauty essentials. It brings a vintage charm to your daily routine. 6. Bookshelf Addition Incorporate the quill box into your bookshelf arrangement. Pair it with small decorative items to create a visually appealing and curated look. 7. Entryway Storage Use the quill box in your entryway to store keys, coins, or other small items you might need as you head out the door. It provides a stylish and practical solution for everyday clutter. 8. Display Open Showcase the inside of the quill box by leaving it slightly open. This allows the beautiful interior and craftsmanship to be appreciated and adds an element of curiosity to your decor.
