Antique Dresser or Jewelry Box with Enamel Portrait and Gilt Bronze Mounts

About the Item

This antique dresser or jewelry box is unsigned, but presumed to have been made in France in approximately 1890 in the period Art Nouveau style. The oval shaped box has a very well executed hand-painted enamel portrait, likely on copper, in a medallion on the top which depicts a young female in period costume. The hand-painted enamel portrait is accented with elaborate gilt bronze figural leaves with a stylized rope motif around the base.
