Calamander Veneered Exterior
From our Jewellery Box collection, we are delighted to introduce this Unusual Antique Calamander Jewellery Box. The Jewellery Box is beautifully shaped in long rectangular form with quadrant brass edging veneered in exotic Calamander panels with double strung brass frames to the lid and front. The exterior of the Jewellery Box is finished with a rectangle vacant initial plaque to the lid and a circular brass escutcheon to the front. The interior of the Jewellery Box is lined in black silk water paper with cushioned black velvet bases around various partitions for storing watches and jewellery. The Jewellery Box features an unusual button activated jewellery tray which has a spring loaded mechanism and pulls out towards the user. This is an unusual characteristic to the Jewellery box and finishes off the high quality characteristics. The inner lid of the Box is complete with a large sized mirror. The Jewellery Box Dates to the 19th century Victorian period and the second half of the 19th century circa 1860.
The Unusual Calamander Jewellery Box is complete with a working lock and tasselled key.

Calamander is a valuable wood found in India, Sri Lanka and South East Asia. It has a contrasting hazel-brown colour with black grain. It is a dense, heavy wood that is so popular it has been logged to extinction over the last few hundred years. This makes Calamander pieces even more special.
Victorian, an era of British History corresponding approximately with the reign of Queen Victoria from the 20th of June 1837 until her death on 22 January 1901 however, there are arguments stating that the Victorian era is actually from 1820 until 1914 proceeded by Georgian era and followed by the Edwardian era.
