Victorian Sterling Silver Two Light Candelabrum

About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver two light candelabrum centrepiece; an addition to our ornamental Victorian silverware collection. This exceptional antique Victorian English cast sterling silver candelabrum has a circular waisted form. This antique 19th century table candelabrum retains the original hallmarked detachable push fit arms. The two sterling silver scrolling arms are ornamented with enveloping scrolling leaf designs supporting circular shaped drip pans, embellished with further foliate decoration. The circular waisted capitals are fitted with sconces, encompassed with further foliated decoration to the rims. The elevated central portion of the labra is surmounted with a leaf decorated boss. This Victorian silver candelabrum can be used as an imposing candlestick once the push fit arms (labra) are detached. The impressive waisted column is embellished with cast scrolling leaf decoration, and incorporates a shaped cartouche displaying an engraved crest of a lion rampant crowned between two wings, all surmounted with a coronet. The swept base is ornamented with further cast foliated decoration, paralleling the plain swept collet rim. This exceptional antique candelabrum does not have a filled base. This exceptional candelabrum was crafted by the renowned London silversmith Richard Sibley I. Such original cast examples of this period are becoming increasingly difficult to locate. Condition This antique 19th century table candelabrum is a superior gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The cast decoration is all very sharp. The hallmarks struck to the surface of the base and sleeve of the central boss are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the superior gauge of silver. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this exceptional example of antique silverware. A magnificent, fine and impressive, rare pair of antique Danish sterling silver two light Pomegranate pattern candelabra made by Georg Jensen; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection These magnificent and rare antique Danish cast sterling silver candelabra have a circular bulbous form, in the Pomegranate pattern. The surface of each exceptional example of antique silverware has a subtly planished finish. Each impressive two light candelabrum retains the original hallmarked scrolling arms, supporting two rounded organic-shaped baluster capitals with plain circular dished drip pans. The scrolling arms of each candelabra incorporate magnificent scrolling leaf and bead decoration, all in the Arts and Crafts style. The plain bulbous columns surmount a plain circular foot, accented with a petal decorated border to the junction. The bases of these magnificent cast candelabra are not weighted. The hallmarks struck to the underside and one of arm of each include: Maker's mark: Georg Jensen (these marks were used between 1925-1932) Designer's mark: GI (Georg Jensen) Silver quality/purity mark: Sterling, 925, S (925/1000) Country mark: Denmark Importer's mark: GS (Stockwell & Co (George Stockwell)) Import hallmark: London Import date mark: q (1931) Such examples struck with full London import hallmarks are rare to the market. An exceptional, fine and impressive pair of versatile antique Victorian English sterling silver three-light candelabra; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection These exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver candelabra have a classical square form to a knopped column onto a stepped swept square foot, in the classic English 18th century style. Each impressive three light candelabrum retains the original hallmarked detachable push fit scrolling arms embellished with reed decoration. The branches (labra) support two cylindrical capitals, each encompassed with bands of applied gadroon decoration. The capitals are fitted with the original hallmarked push fit square sconces, embellished with further gadroon decorated borders to the rims. Each capital of these Victorian candelabra centrepieces surmounts an impressive square drip pan, featuring identical ornamentation to that of the sconces. Each silver candelabrum is fitted with a third detachable central elevated capital. These versatile Victorian candelabra can be used as candlesticks once the arms are detached, alternatively, the labra may be conjoined to form a five-light candelabrum. The panelled waisted column of each candlestick is encompassed with gadroon decoration to the knops. The plain square swept foot incorporates a plain sunken well, and is embellished with gadroon decoration to a plain collet style rim. A fine pair of vintage Elizabeth II English sterling silver two-light candelabra in the George I style; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection. These fine vintage Elizabeth II sterling silver candelabra have a plain circular form, in the George I style. Each impressive two-light candelabrum retains the original hallmarked detachable push fit scrolling arms, which support two rounded waisted capitals with plain circular dished drip pans. These versatile vintage candelabra can be used as candlesticks once the arms (labra) are detached. The knopped stems are surmounted on sunken wells, to tooled decorated circular spreading bases. The filled bases retain the original leatherette covering to the underside. The base of each was made by Richard Comyns of William Comyns & Sons Ltd and the labra were crafted by William Bruford & Son; these items will have been crafted in the same year but due to the hallmarking system the bases are struck with the date letter 'd' and the labra bear 'e'.
