About the Item
Product Description:
We offer here two candle holders designed by Ulla Procope and a vase designed by Gunvor Olin-Grönqvist for Arabia Finland. The vase is part of the Köökki - series which consists of more items like cutting boards and salt boxes. The candle holders are part of the famous Valencia series consisting of cups, saucers, plates, tureens, cutting boards and more. The Valencia series is famous for its midnight blue color and arabic looking design (the city of Valencia was ruled by Moors in the middle ages). The Köökki - series exists in brown color as well, the blue color seems to be most common. The Köökki - series consists of items to be used in the kitchen, the vase on offer here originally included a lid but this is missing (as such it can only be used as a vase). The series is famous for its smooth rounded form and natural feeling organic painting.
Gunvor Olin-Grönqvist (the designer of the vase) worked her whole life for the Arabia factory and her work is inspired by nature. Animal-, plant- and fruits- representations appear frequently on her work. Her most famous designs include Fructus and Cosmos.
Ulla Procope (the designer of the candle holders) was responsable for a whole series of famous designs at Arabia. Ulla, who died young at an age of 47, was the designer of the posthumously released Ruska-series. Starting her career as a potter at the Arabia factory in 1948 she moved to the design department in 1951 at the invitation of Kaj Franck.
Product Condition:
It is important to note that the lid on the vase-like item is missing, it was designed as an oil can but can be only used as vase now. There is some craquelé appearing on the item but this is barely noticeable.
The two candle holders are in very good condition. There are some smaller surface scratches present and some candle residue on the inside which are pictured. Also there is a small paint drop present on one of the candle holders. The rough-looking spots on the side of the candle holders are by design and are only visible when examining the item closely.
