German Art Deco Rally Car Desk Compendium by WMF

About the Item

From our Collectables category, we are thrilled to offer to the market this rare example Art Deco Rally Car Desk Compendium by WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik). The Desk Compendium comprises of a beautifully cast period silver plated pewter Rally car ( likely modelled on the Mercedes 28/95 or 37/90) with a driver and co-driver sat upon a raised plinth base with loral wreath detailed front pen tray. Hidden within the rally car is the original partitioned stamp tray in the bonnet (hood) and the original glass inkwell in the boot (trunk), both enclosed underneath the relevant lids. To the bonnet of the rally car there is an engraving which reads “On To The Centenary” which refers to the next milestone being a century or 100 year anniversary. The pen tray of the Desk Compendium has been engraved with three different engravings. From left to right the engravings read “Presented by the Members of the Young Zorastrian C. Club” (later Zoroastrian), Diamond Jubilee Slow and Steady 1928 with the Young Zorastrian C. Club Monogram (YZCC) and “To the President Mr. M. P. Bharucha In Appreciation of his Valuable Services.” To the right edge of the base there is the WMF Ostrich hallmark used between circa 1910 – 1928 and the letter H. The Art Deco Rally Car Desk Compendium WMF dates to the prolific Art Deco period circa 1928.
