A most impressive fine quality antique Louis XV style French ormolu encrier / inkstand. Born in France in the 19th century, almost certainly Parisian work, exquisitely chased, chisled and sculpted gilded bronze, mounted with an exceptionally executed patinated bronze portrait bust sculpture of Moliere (Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, 1622-1673), over socle marked MOLIERE, flanked by recessed inkwell pots, having a pen tray embellished with repousse ornamentation, ornate scrolling fiolate openwork raised gallery, elegantly rising on stylized scroll feet. Signed, verso marked J.F. Provenance / Acquisition: A prominent Palm Beach, FL private estate collection. Acquired from the highly reputable auction house Austin Auction Gallery; Austin, Texas.
