French 1900 Antique Chinoiserie Champlevé Enameled Inkwell in Brass & Cut Glass

About the Item

French champlevé inkwell. An elusive antique inkwell, created in France, with chinoiserie patterns, back in the 1900's. Masterfully crafted in solid cut crystal and bronze ormolu. The hinged bronze lid on top is decorated with applications of hot cloisonné enamel (Champlevé). It is pretty heavy, with a total weight of Grams and a measures of 74 mm by 74 mm by 115 mm (2.9 x 2.9 x 4.5 Inches). Champlevé, in the decorative arts, is an enameling technique or an object made by the champlevé process, which consists of cutting away troughs or cells in a metal plate and filling the depressions with pulverized vitreous enamel. The raised metal lines between the cutout areas form the design outline. Ii is in great condition, no chips or crack in the cut crystal, the enamel is perfect. INVENTORY REF: D0000MEN/.1111.
