Gilt Brass Rococo Inkwell, Napoleon III, 19th Century

A 19th-century French inkwell in gilded brass, designed in the Napoleon III style with Rococo influence. The piece showcases flowing curves, ornate foliate scrolls, and a shell-like form typical of the revivalist taste of the Second Empire. At the center, a domed ink holder rises from a beautifully cast tray with three compartments, all united by sinuous lines and rich detailing. The surface displays natural wear and aging to the gilt, giving the piece an antique patina. The underside is stamped "J.H. Depose 264", suggesting registration with the French design office.
