About the Item

Antique coppered Japonais Revival inkstand with two ink pots and a stamp holder. The border of the base is in relief and abounds with flowers and birds while the pen rest has a quaint village scene. The glass pieces are blown and cut to resemble the hand-hammered metal so popular at the time. The ink pots are collared in brass and have thick round ground bottoms to fit perfectly into their base. There is one edge flake (pictured) on the edge of the stamp holder. 11" x 6.5" 5" high

    Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. This inkstand is so very interesting in that the Japonais style of the day was hand hammered mixed metals, such as silver, brass and copper. The glass pieces of this set were hand tooled to resemble the metal work of this style and period.
