Napoleon III Style French Inkwell Made of Wood, Brass and Crystal

About the Item

We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Original and rare French inkwell; the entire large circular frame is made of dark wood, inside it is a brass tray above which is the housing for the ink bottle; the wooden parts have been carved with decorations resembling acanthus leaves, a clear reference to the Empire style; the bottle is made of cut crystal, shaped so that it can be placed firmly in its seat; the bottle has a graceful wooden stopper with an elegant metal decoration at its top. The inkwell was created in the Napoleon III style between 1875 and 1880 by a master cabinetmaker in a qualified carpenter's workshop in the town of Pont-De-Beauvoisin, a French commune in the department of Isère, nicknamed the city of furniture for its ancient tradition of woodworking. The Napoleon III style resumed the more serious and austere forms of the First Empire, but the eclecticism that distinguished the period made it more graceful, refined, and elegant, reflecting and well representing the socio-cultural and economic period that France was then experiencing. Our inkwell is a simple and charming object that by virtue of its extreme elegance and its strong, decisive line, makes it pleasingly placeable on any desk or writing table. Measurements diameter cm.22, height cm.19. The inkwell is in good condition. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.
