Murano Opal Chalcedony Millefiori Flower Murrines Italian Art Glass Paperweight
About the Item
Beautiful vintage Murano hand blown opalescent white with orange to green "Chalcedony" surface Italian art glass flowers paperweight. Attributed to designer Galliano Ferro. There are 2 original labels attached. The paperweight has clusters of different flower murrines, in sets of 3 (there is a set of 2 as well). The designs on the flowers are also different on many of the sets. Colors are blue, white, red-pink, yellow, green, and more within each flower. The surface is covered with layers of silver leaf, which triggers a chemical reaction with the opal glass layers, creating the "Chalcedony" technique with amber, dark orange, green and yellow hues mixed throughout. I have owned several pieces with this technique, vases mostly, with the Fornasa De Murano A L'Insegna Del Moreto label. This one has a more generic "Murano AF" abstract rooster label, along with a plain item number label still attached. It has the numbers "87032" on it. Would make a great display piece on any desk, vanity or coffee table. Late Mid-century era. It is solid and very heavy for its size. Measures: 4 1/4" tall x 3" wide.
