About the Item
carriage is representative of the Aesthetic Movement of the
Victorian period. Multiple curlicues and criss-crossed reed
latticing enhance the overall florid design. Beadwork
embellishes the carriage body throughout, with wooden
beads woven into diamond patterned sides, applied to stems
of curls, and threaded around reed strands. Sleigh-foot
wicker gallery is finished in a repeating birdcage design.
Interior is upholstered with tufted fabric and the platform
surface covered in pressed caning. Layers of ruffled lace cover the adjustable parasol which may be removed with a turn of the metal fastener. Functioning brake lever attached to axle of large rear wire wheels. Turned wood handle attached to bentwood frame.
