Early Bronze Abstract Figural Sculpture by Rudy Ackerman, 1969

About

Rudy Ackerman (1932-2015) a noted artist, sculptor and educator who served for decades as art department chairman at Moravian College (1963-2003) and as executive director of the Baum School of Art (1965-2006) in Allentown, PA. This signed piece from Ackerman is an excellent example of his early sculpture work signed to the base and dated 1969. Measuring at 17" tall and weighing ten pounds it is physically substantial and yet delicate in appearance. The extremely Fine legs shouldering the weighty bodies creates a striking, yet appealing contrast. Rudy was colleague of Harry Bertoia and his son Val Bertoia. Ackerman influenced countless artists and students via his work and teaching. He received numerous awards and recognitions for his contributions to the arts, particularly in the development of innovative metal techniques. Heavily poured metals and braising were used to create this sculpture depicting figures balanced in a embrace. The sculpture is in excellent condition with no condition issues. The sculpture is fully signed and dated.
