Fairytales & Legends, a Green, Red & White Glass Sculpture by Sandra A. Fuchs
About the Item
'Fairytales & Legends', is a unique green, red and white glass sculpture with zebrano wood base by the Austrian artist Sandra A. Fuchs. Fuchs creates her own multicolored and complex glass canes, which are then cut to create small 'murrina'. These she composes to create her flat sheet 'canvas' glass artworks, which are fired again, to fuse the pieces together. The detail is breathtaking and testament to these labour-intensive unique works.
Sandra A. Fuchs lives and works in Mautern, a small town located on the Danube within the Wachau, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, in Austria and in Murano, Italy.
Specializing in the areas of cold working, fusing and flame working, Fuchs has undertaken additional advanced training for glassblowing at the Technical College of Glass for Design and Craft (Kramsach, Tyrol, Austria) Abate Zanetti (Scuola del Vetro, Murano, Italy) and at Cam Ocagi (The Glass Furnace Istanbul, Turkey). Her artistic approach and style has also been developed through attending numerous master classes with artists predominantly from Italy and the USA. Since 2014 and after much time abroad, Fuchs is now focused working exclusively as an independent glass artist in her own studio.
Fuchs’ art works share a common ‘spirit’ and ‘organic’ aesthetic. The themes which run through her pieces are inspired by the beauty and power of nature; of rising, elevating and growth, which she also interprets from a spiritual influence. She feels creativity and vision are born by travelling, connecting with people from around the world and through cultural exchange.
Her signature fused panels have an inner life which is captured in dense and complex patterns which are formed from many unique pieces of ‘murrine’, which Fuchs designs and makes by herself. Traditionally ‘murrine’ all possess the same pattern, however by employing a different kiln formed technique, Fuchs makes each ‘murrina’ unique by having more control during the stretching process whilst working with her hot molten glass.
With her blown art works, Fuchs combines this new special manufacturing technique of 'kiln formed murrine’ (which has only been in existence since 1992) with centuries old traditional Muranese glassblowing knowledge, resulting in pieces that are the only ones of their kind worldwide.
In the artist’s own words;
"Offering me every possible way to express myself, glass became my ‘partner in crime’ to transform my ideas in reality. To mix my own colors is very important for me. Colors are feelings, colors show the mood of a work at first glance. Colors are life”.
The depth shown is for the Zebrano wood base wooden base.

White Undulating Ruffled Sculpture, Sandra Davolio
By Sandra Davolio
Located in New York, NY
Sculptural Vase II, 2023, (Porcelain, C. 8.6 in. h x 8.2 in. diam., Object No.: 4185)
Davolio’s sophisticated porcelain works and their organic and natural references are influenced by the Art Nouveau style, the keen interest in the mechanics of futurism, and the minimalist and linear approach typical to Scandinavian Design.
In the past 15 years, Davolio has positioned herself as an internationally renowned ceramicist. J. Lohmann Gallery discovered this talented artist in Europe in 2007 and introduced Davolio’s work to the United States in 2008. She has developed a unique oeuvre over several decades that is unparalleled. Her work conveys a deep connection to nature, and in particular to the sea. Davolio herself reveals that she “feels deep devotion and passion while working” and experiences “wonderful peaceful moments when creating something new from raw clay” with her hands.
The elaborate porcelain sculptures and vessels suggest organic biomorphic forms, mostly aquatic shapes like coral reefs and undulating leaves. A graduate of The Danish School of Design, Davolio is influenced by the minimalist design aesthetic in Copenhagen, as can be seen in many of the artist’s unique and artistically important creations, in which a series of concentric lamellas emanate from the central column of a vase. She also draws inspiration from the ceramic traditions of ancient Mediterranean...
