Apertura Slate 04, Grey & Rust Glass and Steel Abstract Sculpture by Jon Lewis
Located in London, GB
'Apertura Slate 04' is a unique sculpture by the British artist, Jon Lewis, created from handblown television glass, cast iron and steel. The top section is held in place upon the metal base below by a strong magnet. A reoccurring theme throughout the years within Lewis' work has been the synthesis of glass with metal, which under the creative influence of the artist, results in corrosion, patination and texture. These blown glass forms are coated by ‘spark impregnation’. Lewis intensely grinds iron and other metals, creating a multitude of small, hot, airborne metal particles that instantly bond and finally cover, the surface of his glass. Forever evolving works, the consistent detail for each is a window of pure transparent coloured glass, a framed aperture to the internal space, encased and surrounded by this metallic shell. More about the artist; Lewis’ first introduction to glassmaking was in 1989 at Wolverhampton University, where he instantly fell in love with glass as a material. A reoccurring theme throughout the years within his work has been the synthesis of glass with metal, which under the creative influence of the artist, often results in corrosion, patination and texture. With his Apertura series, blown vessels created from recycled Bang & Olufsen Television glass are coated by ‘spark impregnation’. In a parallel and completely different body of work, are Lewis' Moonrock sculptures, which combine glass with dichroic filters and employ his own unique technique which began in 1994. Whilst working as a glass blowing assistant in Oregon, an introduction to ‘dichroic thin film interference filters’ as a form of surface decoration on blown glass, saw Lewis see vast potential. This amazing and very technical material, similar to iridescent butterfly wings, produces colour formed by selective reflection as opposed to absorption. The refractive transformation of light through convex and concave lenses and a diffused projection which this film creates, results in artworks that appear to glow from within, emanating a myriad of colours. A constant in Lewis’ glassmaking palette, this series and technique has featured in many notable sculptural & architectural works and derivations. These two opposing praxis of the artist’s artistic inquiry, often merge into a single expression. Lewis’ work has evolved into a distinctive vision, a fusion of beauty and uniqueness. Every piece of Lewis' art has a twist, in that each of his designs can be traced back to a single sketch. In many instances scribbled several years before just waiting for that last ingredient of inspiration for it to become a reality and brought to life in his multidisciplinary hot glass and metalwork studio in Essex. In the artist’s own words; “In my work I try to create pieces which are hard to identify materially and have an unknown. I enjoy making things whether a glass vessel or a glass furnace, I appreciate things crafted by hand. My history is of engineering and consequently, I love to push the boundaries of what is expected of materials” Lewis was awarded the Glass Society Prize in the British Glass Biennale 2019. His Transceiver received an Honourable Mention in Trace - Showcasing Sustainable Glass Art, in the Glass Art Society’s Virtual 2021 Conference. His dichroic glass has been used in a number of prestigious architectural commissions, including in the Space Pyramidion at the Child Museum of Cairo and the Bliegiessen Sculpture by Thomas Heatherwick...

Auri No 30 with Platinum, an Optical Orb Glass Sculpture by Anthony Scala
Located in London, GB
'Auri No 30 with Platinum' is a handblown and cut glass sculpture with platinum leaf, created by the British artist, Anthony Scala. The Auri Collection is available in 8 different sizes from approx 4cm to 20cm ø, with around 22 choices of silver to gold leaf. Beautiful as unique singular works, they also are hugely impactful when grouped. With a career in glass now spanning over 20 years, Scala creates art works that can only be described as acts of precision. As equally beautiful as they are meticulously created and despite being a hugely skilled glass blower, it is with cold working that Scala excels. Initially qualified as an architectural model maker, it was during this time that Scala learnt many disciplines that would be equally relevant to and ultimately inform his practice today. His passion for glass was discovered however during an apprenticeship with Peter Layton...

Njal, Unique Blue Glass & Oak Unique Sculpture by Backhaus & Brown and Egeværk
Located in London, GB
'Njal' from the Glasskibe Collection is a unique glass and oak sculpture by the Danish and British artists, Backhaus & Brown and Egeværk. The title explained by the artists; "Njal is a Viking boy’s name that means giant. Viking names were often given special characteristics and bestowed strength and protection in life. We know the names of the Vikings from runic inscriptions and place names, among other things. Many of these names are specific to the Nordic countries". The Danish town of Hundested is steeped in maritime history and richly from the Viking Age. It is the majestic imagery of the Viking ships passing that has inspired two of the harbour’s contemporary craft companies; cabinetmakers Egeværk and glass artists Backhaus & Brown. These two award-winning workshops have combined their masterful crafts in an innovative collaboration; namely a series of sculptures named ”Glasskibe” – Viking ships in hand-blown glass and carved oak. Artworks from this collection have been sold to many private collectors but have also been purchased for the Vikingskipshuset, the Viking Ship Museum in Oslo and more recently, shown at the Danish Pavilion during the 2016 Olympics in Rio. A unique collaboration in the truest sense, drawing on the skills of two crafts, based in two workshops and from two Nationalities, British and Danish. Masterfully handcrafted in Italy, Kazimir screens, closed in a set composed by 3 single elements (Type A, Type B and Type C), are not only a perfect divider for minimalist or classic rooms, , but also a symbolic bridge, linking design to art, functionality to decoration. In fact the shapes of this screens are freely inspired on the figurative abstract works by the renowned painter Malevich, a pioneer of the geometric abstractionism of 20 the century Russian avant-garde. The geometric motif in black, white, red and green, of the abstract pattern is recalling the body of the characters in the renewed paintings named "Torso". One screen...

Askr, Unique Green Glass & Oak Unique Sculpture by Backhaus & Brown and Egeværk
Located in London, GB
'Askr' from the Glasskibe Collection is a unique glass and oak sculpture by the Danish and British artists, Backhaus & Brown and Egeværk. The title explained by the artists; “ASKR – ’ash’ (wood) in Norse. According to Norse mythology, Yggdrasil is a mighty ash tree. Yggdrasil is the tree of life, a world tree. Its evergreen crown reaches the sky, and three giant roots end in three different worlds. One reaches Asgård, home of the Norse gods; one reaches Jotumheim, where the giants live; while the third one leads to Hel; the subterranean land of the dead”. The Danish town of Hundested is steeped in maritime history and richly from the Viking Age. It is the majestic imagery of the Viking ships passing that has inspired two of the harbour’s contemporary craft companies; cabinetmakers Egeværk and glass artists Backhaus & Brown. Orientation in Red & Purple, Unique Glass Sculpture by by Sandra A. Fuchs
Located in London, GB
'Orientation in Red & Purple', is a unique purple, red and white glass sculpture by the Austrian artist Sandra A. Fuchs. Fuchs creates her own multicolored and complex glass canes, which are then cut to create small 'murrina'. These she composes to create her flat sheet 'canvas' glass artworks, which are fired again, to fuse the pieces together. The detail is breathtaking and testament to these labour intensive unique works. The dimensions are for the glass panel and the wooden base, which is available in either IPE (dark ironwood) or walnut. Sandra A. Fuchs lives and works in Mautern, a small town located on the Danube within the Wachau, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, in Austria and in Murano, Italy. Specializing in the areas of cold working, fusing and flame working, Fuchs has undertaken additional advanced training for glassblowing at the Technical College of Glass for Design and Craft (Kramsach, Tyrol, Austria) Abate Zanetti (Scuola del Vetro, Murano, Italy) and at Cam Ocagi (The Glass Furnace Istanbul, Turkey). Her artistic approach and style has also been developed through attending numerous master classes with artists predominantly from Italy and the USA. Since 2014 and after much time abroad, Fuchs is now focused working exclusively as an independent glass artist in her own studio. Fuchs’ art works share a common ‘spirit’ and ‘organic’ aesthetic. The themes which run through her pieces are inspired by the beauty and power of nature; of rising, elevating and growth, which she also interprets from a spiritual influence. She feels creativity and vision are born by travelling, connecting with people from around the world and through cultural exchange. Her signature fused panels have an inner life which is captured in dense and complex patterns which are formed from many unique pieces of ‘murrine’, which Fuchs designs and makes by herself. Traditionally ‘murrine’ all possess the same pattern, however by employing a different kiln formed technique, Fuchs makes each ‘murrina’ unique by having more control during the stretching process whilst working with her hot molten glass. With her blown art works, Fuchs combines this new special manufacturing technique of 'kiln formed murrine’ (which has only been in existence since 1992) with centuries old traditional Muranese glassblowing knowledge, resulting in pieces that are the only ones of their kind worldwide. In the artist’s own words; "Offering me every possible way to express myself, glass became my ‘partner in crime...
