Glass finish notes: mirrored technique
It is rare that handmade objects are mirrored, we are used to seeing only optically perfect glass being mirrored. The silvering process is also done by hand - another craftsman intervening in the process and carrying out a hand-made finish. Mirror technique highlights dust and magnifies tool marks and surface texture, bends in the glass or the varying thickness and thinness of the material. Once invisible marks are highlighted after the mirror finish has been applied. Colour distribution and colour density can affect the mirror finish. Top and bottom sections are not blown and stretched out as much as the center section. Middle sections with lower colour density may show the natural tint of the silver mirror finish.
