About the Item

Superb Marcel Marti (1925–2010) attributed abstract patinated bronze sculpture that is unique from every angle. This is a striking postwar piece of art from the 50's in a dark bronze with etched lines in various sections of the totem. Museum or your maison, you decide. Marcel Martí is one of the great contemporary Catalan sculptors and one of the most representative figures of the renovating artistic movement that took place in postwar Barcelona. He was born in Alvear (Argentina) in 1925, to Spanish parents, who brought him to Spain at one year old where he permanently resided in Barcelona and began to paint at the age of 17. In 1946 he became interested in sculpture and after 1953, he dedicated himself completely to sculpture shifting from figurative towards abstraction in 1958. In his early works, the influence of the work of great masters of modern sculpture, such as Moore, Zadkine or Julio González, is palpable. Despite his incursions into geometric abstraction and his contacts with neoconstructivism in his early days, Marcel Martí has always been considered a sculptor linked to informalism due to the strong expressionist character of his works. At the beginning of the sixties he devoted himself almost exclusively to metals, iron and copper, carrying out mainly geometric works in which angles and edges dominate. This artist, like most contemporary sculptors, attaches great importance to the materials used in his work. He stated this on occasion: "Sculpture means for me the transcendent sense of existence expressed in matter, where I try to capture my intuitions and experiences through a strange affinity in the physical dialogue of the world of my own to the eternal". For this reason he uses the most diverse materials in his sculptures: iron, bronze, limestone, marble, clay, wood, polymethacrylate or Corten steel. His most characteristic works are organic sculptures that in some cases recall Gaudí's modernist forms. His language, in which concave and convex elements of increasingly simple and refined lines are combined, gives rise to a work of great coherence and perfection in which the artist values ??volumes more and more. The compositions that Marcel Martí creates are organic, living forms that sometimes transcend the initial intention of the artist. He took part in a large number of international exhibitions both collective and solo: exhibition in the Museum of Cuenca, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the First Exhibition of Contemporary Sculpture in Barcelona, in Marlborough Gallery in London, "Week of Spain" in Rabat, the "Exhibition of Spanish Art" in Mexico, "Contemporary Spanish Art" in Helsinki, "22 Spanish Artists" in Fez and the XXXII Venice Biennale, etc. His most famous sculptures are: “Driade-America”, “Ritme i projecció”, “Cosmos”, “Proali”, etc. The sculptures of Marcel Marti adorn Barcelona, Almeria, Gerona, Madrid, California, Miami and others. He also studied with Ossip Zadkine and André Lhote. Signed M Marti, 59. Some bright highlights on bronze from lighting, color may vary due to room lighting. Measurements include base. Bronze Sculpture alone is 21.50" tall. Has a great weight to it. Could be completely solid or partially solid.
