About the Item

Anemone consists of one-off pieces in amber, gold, dark burgundy, and hydrangea, expressing Michela Cattai’s fascination with nature in all of its unpredictable forms and manifestations. Each piece was crafted in Murano, with the traditional venetian blown glass technique, shaped freehand, and finished with a silky texture of warm monochrome tones. Signed and dated No. 2406. A Milan-based glass artist, Michela Cattai is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, and has been the Art Director of Venini until 2023. Today, she works independently. Cattai’s glass vessels are crafted by some of Murano’s finest glassmakers—her pieces pay homage to the Golden Age of Venetian glass, while keyed-in on artistic innovation in the field. Her work is a testimony to the way in which the finest art glass practiced for centuries in Murano can be reinterpreted to express the zeitgeist. She has participated in solo and group exhibitions at the Chamber of Deputies in the Sala del Cenacolo, Rome and the Italian Cultural Institute of Tokyo, and her work is included in the collections of the Stiftung Museum Kunst Palast of Düsseldorf, the Europeana of DDB, the Murano Glass Museum, the Scuola Grande di San Giovanni Evangelista in Venice, and the Italian Embassy’s permanent collection of modern art in Tokyo, among others.
