About the Item

A charming quality antique bronze figure of a seated Dachshund, possibly Austrian and dating from the second half of the 19th century. The sculpture is beautifully modelled and detailed and portrays the dachshund, wearing a collar, resting on its back legs with its tail lying to one side and holding its head slightly tilted to one side. The dog has an excellent facial expression with hanging floppy ears and has a rich brown aged patina with later protective felt attached under the paws. The dachshund is not marked but is reminiscent of the quality being produced by several of the Viennese bronze workshops. Provenance: Acquired from the UK Art Market. In excellent overall condition with a wonderful natural brown aged patina.
