Magnificent hand carved antique eagle sculpture.
Most people are not capable of drawing a small precise picture of any bird, but this artist has sculpted a majestic and life-like eagle out of a single rock of alabaster That, to us, is amazing and it takes a truly gifted artisan to get both the details and the balance right. This finer quality carved eagle has exactly the strong and streamlined frame, the sharp eyes and the claws that this born predator needs in order to survive and prosper. However, what takes this particular sculpture to the next level is this bald eagle's head. The artisan clearly decided to 'portray' a seasoned and fiercer than average eagle, because this eagle's body posture and facial expression immediately tells you this guy is at the top of his game and not be messed with. What also makes him impressive is his size, because this majestic eagle is 17.1 inches tall and he weighs a little over 25 pounds lbs. The multiple and evenly spread, black veins in the alabaster on his back perfectly complement his feathers and it too is a detail that makes this eagle stand out from anything you ever saw. This born hunter is a joy to watch, no matter where or how you decide to have him on display. We date this fine antique sculpture from circa 1900 and to have found it in this truly excellent condition again felt like a blessing.
