Antique Large & Impressive Alabaster Harpy Eagle Sculpture with Spreads Wings

About the Item

Magnificent alabaster sculpture of what we believe is the Harpy eagle. Carving anything even remotely realistic out of a mineral stone rock like alabaster for almost everyone in the world is extremely difficult, if not impossible. However, in the first quarter of the 20th century there still were a few artisans capable of creating truly amazing sculptures and this is one of the largest bird sculptures that we ever had the pleasure of offering. This majestic and lifelike eagle is entirely hand carved out of one large rock of alabaster. This, to us, is simply amazing and it takes a truly gifted artisan to be able to create such a work of art. If the artisan would still be alive, then he would probably tell you that this eagle was captured in the rock already and that he only had to free it. We think this is the Harpy eagle, the artisan made sure this sculpture too was large and impressive. This remarkably sculpted specimen has exactly the mean and sharp eyes and the claws that this born scavenger needs in order to survive and prosper. We date this marvelous sculpture from 1900/1920 and it is in excellent condition. Mind you, our price even includes perfect packing (in a custom made box) and also worldwide delivery from our store to your door within 4 to 6 workdays. Maximum height x width x depth: 18 x 15 x 13.5 inches. Weight: 55 pounds (25 kilo). We have a passion for the unique, for quality, for stylish yet practical and for craftsmanship of years gone by.
