Rare Hand Carved Antique Double Eagle Sculpture on Alabaster Rock Signed & Dated

Magnificent and very rare antique sculpture depicting two eagles. Most people are not capable of drawing a picture of an eagle. The artist whom created this sculpture has actually hand carved not one, but two majestic and lifelike eagles out of alabaster. This natural mineral stone is both hard and fragile which makes it extremely difficult to succesfully carve anything out of it. Well, if you look at this very rare sculpture then you can see this finer quality sculpture specimen can only be the work of a master sculptor. This particular specimen is carved out of a rare type of alabaster that actually looks a lot like marble. These beautifully sculpted eagles have exactly the strong and streamlined frame, the sharp eyes and the claws that these born predators need in order to survive and prosper. These born hunters with their piercing and original inlaid glass eyes truly are a joy to watch and the artist proudly (and rightly so) signed and dated this work of art on the back. The signature has slightly faded and unfortunately we are unable to read the name, but we can read the year 1924 underneath the signature. The probably Italian, German or Swiss sculptor must have been at the peak of his career, because most sculptors would not take on the challenge of carving two instead of 'just' one eagle. We have never seen a sculpture with two eagles and we could not find another one anywhere in the world either. That is how rare this antique is. So even with the slightly poor restauration to the beak of the lower eagle, the missing wingtip on the back of the higher eagle and the restored corner on the back of the base, this extremely rare, signed and dated antique certainly is great value for money. Had it been in perfect condition, then it would have been worth double our price.
