This marvelous and meaningful antique chimp is beautiful for many reasons.
This rare and delightful chimpanzee sculpture puts a smile on everybodies face, but he also is impressive because of the quality of the carving and meaningful too. The lifelike face and the perfectly captured natural posture of this sitting 'great ape' is a joy to watch. It is clear that this quality carved chimp is navel gazing, but what most people don't know is that navel gazing in ancient times was actually a form of meditation (and still can be). However, in the twentieth century 'navel gazing' was used in a much lesser positive meaning and maybe that is what the artist was trying to teach mankind. And by using the species that is by far the closest to our human DNA, maybe the artist is telling us to not wonder too far from our own nature of being. The third main chakra, the Manipura is closest to the navel and it represents confidence, self-esteem and personal power. With that in mind it needs no further explanattion why 'navel gazing' (or bringing attention/consciousness to the 'navel chakra') can be a powerful and meaningful meditation practice. This one of a kind chimpanzee sculpture also has a wonderful patina and he will look great no matter where you decide to have him on display. He will also be a reminder for anyone who may sometimes be lacking self-belief. This also makes a great gift for anyone who loves animals in general, but chimpanzees in particular.
