Large Rare Art Deco Bronze Egyptian Cat Goddess Bastet Sculpture Statue, c.1930
About the Item
A stunning, quite large French Art Deco bronze Egyptian cat representing Bastet the Egyptian goddess of the home, domesticity, women's secrets, fertility, childbirth, and cats (She is often depicted as a woman with a cat's head or in the form of a cat). The sculpture has hollow eyes as was popular and often produced in the Art Deco period, and a thick decorative collar with detailed Egyptian symbol and hieroglyph around its neck.
An impressive, heavy, engaging piece. Would be a great addition to any Art Deco or cat/animal sculpture collection or make for an eye catching stand alone accent piece in about any setting.
