About the Item

These chunky chenets make no bones about their Romantic lineage and exhibit all of the passion you’d expect from artisans working in the period 1830 to 1848. Here, a nice yin-and-yang balance is achieved between nurture and nature red in tooth and claw. This latter motif took France by storm as the oeuvre of the animalier Louis Barye (1796-1875) became nearly ubiquitous in the Romantic Era. These chenets are lacking the connecting middle bar, but this can be added. As it is, the pair, fire-gilt, highly detailed, finely chiseled, work fine as objets in themselves.
