About the Item
The “Surolù” art works - this is artistic identity chosen by Vanessa Semaino - arise from the artist 's need to represent women’s condition today, particularly in their emotional states that confer their unique identities. These precious ceramic sculptures, entirely handcrafted and decorated, represent female Moor’s heads. They were conceived as an
expression of an introspective journey that relates Vanessa’s Sicilian origins and to her professional experience in the fashion stylistic field.
The artist introduces, for the first time, the repeated use of sociological themes of current relevance through a visually immediate language, represented in her art works with a contemporary pop aesthetic.
Angela in as artwork representing sloth in the Moor’sseries of headstitled “The Seven Deadly Sins.” Angela is a name derived from Greek, meaning “messenger,” and Angela’s message is a plea for love and attention.
She is a young woman who chews gum and playfully blows up a balloon, creating a delightful and lighthearted contrastto the seriousness conveyed by her oversized nerd glasses. Her youth is further highlighted by transforming the classic turban, traditionally worn by the Moor’s Sicilian heads, into a cap adorned with the colors and patterns reminiscent of a famous Versace shirt print. This detail accentuates her vivacity and youthful energy. The tattoos Angela adorns her body with are clear expressions of her need for love and self-confidence. Each tattoo narrates a story, a lived experience, and together they form a mosaic of emotions and desires. Her eccentric and vibrant appearance serves as a call for attention, inviting others to look beyond mere appearances and recognize the fragility and beauty that lies within every young person.

The artist introduces, for the first time, the repeated use of sociological themes of current relevance through a visually immediate language, represented in her art works with a contemporary pop aesthetic.
In contemporary art, the interpretation of the seven deadly sins offers artists an opportunity to explore the complex nuances of humanity.
Antonia is a particularly intriguing and fascinating artwork that embodies the sin of gluttony in the reinterpretation of the seven deadly sins. The woman depicted is a clear homage to Holly, the famous character from the renowned film “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” In the artwork, “Antonia,” a woman of great elegance, wears the iconic black dress with long gloves and a beautiful pearl necklace, which strongly allude to the film’s most iconic scene. The artist’s contemporary reinterpretation captures the image evoked by the celebratory reference to the scene from which the film took its name, “breakfast at Tiffany’s,” and returns it to us with an ironic twist that almost conceals the subtle social provocation conveyed by the use of gold chains and bracelets that serve as noodles in the artwork. In fact, Antonia is depicted avidly eating, but always with great elegance, using Japanese...
