About the Item

Fine murano glass sculpture by Pino Signoretto of the Bust of Hippocrates. Handcrafted by master glass artist Pino Signoretto on the Venetian island of Murano where the most exquisite italian art glass is made. Designed to resemble an ancient marble or "excavated" bust of the classical greek or roman era, made of opaque white semi-translucent glass and covered in a frosted corroso type corroded finish. This refined art glass sculpture would be perfectly at home in both a modern or traditional setting. About the Artist Pino Signoretto (1944 - 2017) One of the most famous and widely hailed glass masters in the world, Pino Signoretto, known for his incredible ability in sculpting from hot glass. Equally comfortable fabricating for international artists such as Salvatore Dali, Kiki Smith, and Jeff Koons, Pino Signoretto never abandoned the traditional clowns and other classic Murano figures, which he rendered at larger scale and with greater fluidity than anybody else. Glass master Alfredo Barbini declared that Pino Signoretto was the rare type of maestro who comes along only once in a century. Signoretto collaborated with America glass artist Dale Chihuly, and was a regular guest at the Pilchuck Glass School. Dale Chihuly recalls: "Pino was one of my best friends and one of the greatest glass sculptors of our time. He made extraordinary pieces and his skill and deep generosity of spirit helped not only me, but hundreds of other artists realize their creative vision".
