About the Item

19th Century Bronze Sculpture of a Young Female Gathering Hey This superb 19th century large bronze figure was produced at the highly acclaimed French foundry Bronze Garanti Au Titre L. V Depossee and it bears their stamp and registration number. This fine sculpture depicts a pretty young woman dressed in typical simple working clothes from this period standing with her arms folded and resting on a rustic wooded rake whilst taking a rest from the hey making on a hot summer day. It was sculpted by the famous French artist Henri Godet 1863 – 1937 who studied at the Ecole National Des Bearux – Art with Mathurin Moreau. Godet was married to the famous French feminist and orator Nelly Rousell. This superb bronze is high quality, finely detailed, and has a wonderful mellow brown- green patination. It is in excellent condition. French circa 1880 Dimensions: W 22 cm (8.7") x D 20 cm (7.9") x H 58 cm (22.8")
