Bronze Figure of Mercury, After Giambologna, Italian, circa 1800

$9,500

About

This handsome and large solid-cast sculpture Mercury in flight is a copy of the most famous creation of Giambologna, the Flemish sculptor who worked for the Medici family in Florence, Italy where the original from 1580 is kept in the Bargello Museum. Many believe it to be the supreme example of Mannerist sculpture of the Late Renaissance. This artwork is beautifully patinated and mounted on a modern ziggurat style wood base.
