Frederick Remington "Bronco Buster" Bronze. American, Circa 1940's

About the Item

This is a circa 1940's second casting of the iconic bronze by Frederick Remington, entitled "Bronco Buster"; originally cast by the Roman Bronze Works Foundry in upstate New York between 1895 and 1904. The bronze depicts a cowboy trying to "break" a horse while holding on for dear life, a loose stirrup and quirt (whip) in hand show his desperation. The piece was copyrighted by Remington in 1895 and there are only 93 original castings; one of the more recent original examples having sold for $615,000 to the Dallas Museum. An original example resides in the Oval Office of the White House. Frederick Remington (1861-1909) is recognized as one of the leading artists in capturing images of the "Wild West" in the United States, venturing into paintings as well as "lost wax" bronze making methodology, his most famous work of art being this cowboy featuring "Bronco Buster". Related to both Jedidiah Smith (mountain man) and Eliphalet Remington (founder of gun manufacturing company), Frederick Remington was well familiar with cowboy and western, culture, ways, and mores. This example is in excellent and all original condition; there are no breaks or repairs and the surface is smooth and exquisite as the original would have been with the appropriate color and rendition . This is the full size (dimensions below), and weight as the original, and is presented on a marble base stand; the brass plate "Bronco Buster" Frederick Remington is affixed to the side of the base, and "Frederick Remington" signature is in raised script letters to the top base of the actual bronze. The copyright insignia (a triangle inside of a circle) is embossed on the horses left rear hind leg (see images). Wonderful piece for a Western themed decorating scheme, or a cross collectible for those who collect either Western art or Americana. Dimensions: 23 3/4" high on marble base (22 3/3" actual) 19" deep on marble base (18" actual) 10" wide Provenance: From my own collection of Western paintings and memorabilia; having been acquired in 1980 from Western collector Charles Klappert, San Diego.
