Italian Grand Tour Classical Verdigris Bronze Sculpture of Narcissus

About the Item

Italian Classical bronze sculpture of Narcissus with a verdigris patina, believed to by Chiurazzi, or a similar foundry, Naples, circa 1900. Narcissus is shown nude except for a pair of sandals, standing on a circular plinth with his head bowed and an arm extended, an animal skin draped over one shoulder. Modeled after the original antique Narcissus found in a Pompeian house in 1862 by Giuseppe Fiorelli. In Greek mythology, Narcissus was known for his beauty and fell in love with his own reflection. Unable to tear himself away, he remained staring at his reflection for the rest of his life.
