Matilde Eugenia Poulat (1899 - 1960) was one of Mexico's leading jewelry designer of Mid-Century Mexico. Born in Mexico City, she studied in the Academia de San Carlos, where she met Diego Rivera, a friend of many years. After making a living as a painting teacher, she focused her work on silver jewelry and design. In 1934, Poulat founded MATL in 1934 and established herself as a prominent figure in modern Mexican design with her exquisite necklaces and earrings that evoque both Prehispanic art and the Baroque european tradition.
