Craved sand stone portrait bay Bay Area artist Ruth Cravath (1902-1986) created in the early 1930s and signed by the artist, with a custom made stand. Cravath was a stonework artist and painter known for her public works in the Bay Area. She attended the California School of Fine Arts and studied with Beniamino Bufano and Ralph Stackpole, later to become a instructor there. In 1940 she was commissioned to create three statues for the Golden Gate International Exposition. Her best known work in San Francisco Bay Area is her 27 foot tall, cast concrete and still
reinforced statue of St. Francis that stood at the entrance of Candlestick Park from 1973 to 2015 and is currently being relocated. Her work is seldom seem at auction or private sales.
