About the Item

Art Deco Vintage vintage hand carved sculpture from lacquered limewood 1930s Vienna. A stunning figurative sculpture showing the main figure Lumpacivagabundus from a popular Viennese fairy tale stage play written by Johann Nestroy 1833. Johann Nestroy ( 1801 - 1862 ) Austrian dramatist, his works showed the literature peak from old Vienna. Lumpacivagabundus is the representation of a seducer, finely hand carved of lime wood and partly lacquered with beautiful details. We love this sculpture for its wonderful fine details like the facial expression with wrinkled eye brows and the look in its eyes a well as the crumpled hat from a tramp. Provenance: an estate from an actor couple, who lived and worked in Vienna around 1930s. Very good condition approx. measures: Width 10 cm Depth 8 cm Height 25.3 cm
