Paul A. Lobel Sterling Fisherman Kinetic Sculpture

About the Item

Paul A. Lobel (1899-1983) modernist silversmith, sculptor and artist. Lobel sold his jewelry and art at his Greenwich village shop in the 1940s and 1950s. This two-piece sterling Kinetic sculpture is of a fisherman catching a fish on a wood base. This sculpture comes from the estate and personal collection of a very high profile art collector in St. Louis, Peter Fischer (d.2015), the man behind City Garden in St. Louis, along with the Gateway Foundation which places major pieces of art throughout St.Louis. Very nice condition, light tarnish. Lobel had one-man show in Paris in 1925, won two awards at the International Exposition of Decorative Arts in Paris in 1932, the subject of two exhibitions at the American Museum of Art and The Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Lobel closed his Greenwich Village shop sometime in the 1950s.
