About the Item
Sculptural 18th century Italian mecca miniature fragment with fossil agate coral.
The fragment was originally part of an 18th century Italian candlestick from a historic church. It is mounted with the fossil agate coral. Fossil agate coral is also Florida's state stone and is known for its unique formation that can take place over 20 million years. It's a natural gemstone that is created when prehistoric coral is gradually replaced with agate.
The Italian church candlestick top artifact and fossil agate coral are put together in a sculptural form - creating a piece that appears to have evolved together over time. Interpreting the past to create a piece entirely original, evolving in its own right.
