About the Item

Title: Rare antique set of 10 pharmacy bottles apothecary glass with gold leaf   Beautiful set of ten pharmaceutical bottles, circa 1900 originally from a chemists in Northern Ireland. Note the exquisite gold leaf framed labels which make them real collectors items (and add value). These elegant bottles lined pharmacy shelves until the late 1920s. We’ve selected the bottles with the most attractive and desirable titles as well as pretty finish and in a variety of sizes and assorted top designs to compliment each other. The rounded stoppers are hand blown glass making them more valuable than the others due to it’s finer craftsmanship, the plain chisel top designs are elegant and feel extremely tackle to the touch fitting perfectly with ones thumb, with some finished with superb hand cut edges which are more labor intensive specimens, and almost reminiscent of a perfume bottle. The shorthand Latin (some ancient Greek) names for these botanical delights gives more detail to be admired. They are all empty but some have a wonderful slight residue of its past contents lining the inside of the bottle. Unusual and stunning treasure as a unique feature to accessorise your interior just as fragrance bottles and cosmetic jars would. Works wonderfully as a collection lined up in a stylish bathroom whether traditional or contemporary (see photo of a collection on an antique marble Georgian washstand for style reference only). Fitting beautifully in a bedroom interior, on a shelf, bedside table, dresser, even above the doorway. Care: I have gently wiped the body with a dampish cloth on the outside to give a clean exterior and bring the top back to a sparkle, but left both the interior and bottle neck in their original state as I don’t want to remove some of the object’s character. Some have visible remnants of the contents, be it powder or liquid and in their colours from white to traces of blue, red and green. You may clean these further but I would not recommend submerging the bottle in water as it may effect the label and its gilt even though they are encased in a sheath of glass. Both water and any form of heat may dislodge the labels as they are held on by an original wax (which you can see if you look through the bottle from the back). Some of the lids are jammed in place but could be gently dislodged at your own peril. I would strongly advise against putting any edible contents in them.     Condition: Great antique condition, no damage or restoration on all, shows signs of age that we feel add to their beauty and character, minuscule scuffs and imperfections around the label which are part of their history.

Rare French Art Deco Gabriel Fourmaintraux Desvres Pot Turquoise Ceramic Vase
Located in Belfast, Northern Ireland
An astonishing piece from a pottery works run by Gabriel Fourmaintraux in Desvres in the Pas de Calais region of Northern France, after joining his family’s firm in 1905. The artist was trained at Sevres in Art Nouveau Japoniste techniques in ‘grès flamme' (stoneware with variegated flame-like glazes) which influenced Desvres to produce ceramics outside of the firm's usual production. They notably collaborated with painter Fernand Léger. This particular pot has the characteristic mark of the firm - a circular cache often almost illegible, as in this example, reading ‘F D’ within “DESVRES FRANCE’, as well as a series of numbers. The stamp is usually indistinct but is easily recognizable to those familiar with this pottery’s production. An extremely unusual piece of art with fascinating prismatic shape where its profile steps up or down in a striking manner. It has a flowing glaze characteristic of the firm’s Art Nouveau origins, which runs from a pale turquoise to red effects with very delicate metallic and multi-color crystalline luster appearance, but whereas many of their forms are organic and more conventional in origin this one is unusually of an Art Deco shape making it particularly special. A rare collector’s item, or a unique accessory which would fit into both a traditional or contemporary glam decor...
