About the Item

Chinese Blackware Jar – Warring States Period China, 475–221 B.C. A finely hand-built blackware jar from the Warring States period, notable for its elegant simplicity and timeworn presence. Bulbous in profile with a rounded underside, the vessel is crowned by a sharply everted rim that lends a crisp silhouette. A single loop handle rises from the shoulder to the rim, emphasizing the jar’s functional origins and balanced proportions. The surface retains a rich dark patina with lighter mineral deposits, attesting to centuries of burial and use. Vessels of this type were used in daily life for storing and serving food or liquids and reflect the refined ceramic traditions of early China. Provenance: This Warring States blackware jar is an evocative testament to the artistry and craftsmanship of ancient Chinese ceramic production. From a London, UK gentleman’s collection of ancient pottery and artefacts, acquired in the 1990s.
