About the Item

This is a 1920s Danish 46 cm tall monumental ceramic floor vase by Herman Kähler. It comes in almost mint condition. A globular body with tall tapering neck and a mouth with soft wavy structure. The colors goes in royal blue and dark chocolate brown on a base in light brown. It has a silky matte finish and the cow horn glazed pattern portraying climbing plants with heavy foliage. The underside is signed with the well known logotype HAK and stamped “Denmark”. ____________________ 1872 the tile stove maker Joachim C H Kähler decided to retire and handed over the company to two of his seven children, his two sones Herman August Kähler, 1846-1917, and Carl Fredrik Kähler. 1875 Herman decided to start on his own and had a new workshop built. Carl Fredrik continued to run the tile stove production until 1896 when he chose to sell. It was at that time Herman began seriously to work with artistic design and also experimenting with new glazes, the work that within a decade, after started a collaboration with the architect Vilhelm Klein when ware and ornaments began to be produced in a much larger scale, made the company known worldwide. It’s was also Herman how introduce the well known logotype HAK, designed by Svend Hammershøi. Over all the years, since its foundation in 1839, the company remained in the Kähler family. So in 1974, the time come when again two brothers, Herman Jörgen Kähler and Nils Joakim Kähler, choose to go their separate ways. This time the company closed down.
