About the Item

Late 1960s Mid-Century Scandinavian ceramic pottery by Norwegian artists Dagny and Finn Hald. The ceramic pottery is earthy with layers of black, brown and rust colored glaze and square pattern details. Signed Hald-Soon Norway on the base. Among the most successful couple in Norwegian ceramics from the late 1950s and decades ahead were Dagny and Finn Hald. Finn Hald (1929-2010) started most of a coincidence with ceramics. In 1953, he met Tor Isachsen and together the two traveled to Faenza in 1954 and studied ceramics at Istituto statale dárte per la ceramica for 2 months. At home in Norway, they set up a pottery workshop on Nordstrand while studying at the National Crafts and Art Industry School (SHKS). Hald turned and Isachsen glazed and decorated. In 1954 they also participated in the Foreningen Brukskunst autumn pattern at Kunstnernes Hus in Oslo. And not least, they participated in the Triennal in Milan where they were awarded bronze medal, which must be considered as a major event considering their lack of experience. In the winter of 1955/56, the two assisted Kåre Berven Fjeldsaa at his workshop at Blommenholm. Dagny Hald (1936-2001) studied at the Accademia dei Belle Arti in Rome in 1951, and at SHKS in the years from 1952 to 1955. At the same time she studied at Marianne Herlufsdatters and Lars Thirslund's Workshop in Birkerød, Denmark. In 1956 she married Finn Hald and the same year they moved to Son and started up a pottery workshop. In 1957, the Hald couple had their first joint solo exhibition at Forum in Oslo, which otherwise received good reviews in Bonytt. Most of the exhibits on the exhibition were probably made of stoneware clay, although perhaps not burned at a temperature higher than 1150 degrees, so that the stoneware clay and the glaze were sintered. Dagny and Finn Hald came from the start to collaborate on most things in the creative process - he turned and she decorated. (Mats Linder).
