About the Item
A richly textured ceramic vase by Beswick, produced in England during the 1930s at the height of the Art Deco movement. This sculptural piece showcases the pottery’s mastery of high-relief technique and bold glaze work, featuring a striking red gloss overlay that defines a stylised natural motif in dramatic contrast against a dappled brown and cream ground.
The vase is shaped with a gently flared silhouette set atop a circular footed base. The pedestal is encircled with a band of sharp triangular motifs in deep crimson glaze, a classic Deco geometric touch that enhances the boldness of the design. Both decorative and architectural, the composition bridges ornamental foliage with linear Art Deco elements.
Marked to the base with the Beswick impressed model number 656, the vase stands 26 cm high, with a width of 23 cm and depth of 15 cm. It remains in good vintage condition, with age-appropriate wear to the underside and no structural concerns.
A distinctive example of Art Deco era English ceramics that combines decorative craft with bold decorative style.
