About the Item

Carl Deffner (1856-1948) Art Nouveau Jugendstil pewter and glass antique vase was made circa 1900 and is in excellent condition. No dents, missing parts or repairs to the pewter holder. There does seem to be some discolouration to the pewter which may benefit from some polishing. However, it does not detract from the beauty of this lovely Art Nouveau bud vase. There is the original carved glass flute that sits inside the pewter stand that is in excellent condition. No chips, cracks or fleabites to glass at all. The cylindrical glass insert is held in place by two carved pewter prongs. Carl Deffner was born in 1856 Esslingen, Germany. He was known for decorative copper, brass and plated tableware. He took over management of his father's metalware factory in 1900. He was well-known for his many excellent designs during the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods. The factory closed in 1959. It is stamped on the underside with the Carl Deffner of Esslingen sheild and is very much in the aesthetic of Art Nouveau Jugendstil style which is typical of his designs of that period. This lovely pewter vase stands 7.5" (19cm) high x 3.25" (8.25cm) wide (from edge of one prong to the other. The base is 2.5" (6.35 cm) square.
