About the Item
This is a very rare large ceramic vase made in Japan, Edo period (1800s-1860s).
I have been buying old tools and antiques in Japan for over 20 years, and this is the first time I have come across such a vase.
It is so rare and has an extraordinary presence.
This pottery is called “Tokonameyaki,” a traditional pottery that is one of the six oldest kilns in Japan.
The outside is wrapped with straw and plastered over it.
This was probably a reinforcing treatment to prevent cracks from progressing at the time, and the straw wrapping was an ingenious way to firmly fix the plaster.
Over the years, the plaster has peeled off, creating a unique texture and feel.
The texture, which resembles an abstract painting, evokes a sense of decadence and attracts the viewer's attention.
It is a one-of-a-kind piece in which antiquity itself is a thing of beauty.
As you can see in the photo, there are some cracks on the pottery, but it stands on its own and has a solid, heavy feel. However, it is not suitable for holding water, so we recommend using it as a vase for branches or dried flowers.
Weight 29kg.

Our Philosophy
Objects always tell the truth.
All I can do is just to face with them sincerely and give
them deep affection as much as I can.
There is no boundary of nationalities and of eras in beauty.
But I think now is the time we choose 'Japanese style' and it
will be the best way to remind us of what we are losing
today and to question us about an essence of beauty again.
I hope that you can touch the memories which the objects here have,
feel and think of something invisible but exists undoubtedly.
